August 2015 Income Report

Welcome to August’s Monthly Income Report

Last month I made $581.54 throughout the entirety of the TechJohnson brand. Creating YouTube videos, blog articles, live streams, and doing social media marketing has allowed me to earn a bit of side revenue to help offset a few bills. Currently, the TechJohnson brand is not my full-time job, but it is my hopes and dreams to work hard to one day fulfill that goal.

In the beginning of the year, I wrote an article entitled 2015: Transparency & Expansion. Inside that article, which I encourage everyone to read, I talked about wanting to step out of my comfort zone and talk about my online earnings and analytics with the TechJohnson brand. I have been skeptical to do so, but here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone.

This is a series of reports that I will post each and every month summarizing my progress with the TechJohnson brand. By doing this series, I hope to inspire someone to begin their online journey and document their experience, growth and possible revenue earnings.

IMPORTANT HAPPENINGS IN AUGUST

Launched Income Report

On August 26, 2015, I officially published my first income report for the month of July! To my surprise, it has been a huge hit and has even been featured on Cash Flow Diaries report section which has a lot of the top named bloggers. It’s a huge honor to myself, no matter the size of that particular website. Just seeing my name with some of these top guys is awesome! Heck, even the technology YouTuber and daily vlogger Ty Moss had support behind it! Thanks, homie.

Even though I don’t make a lot of money through my TechJohnson brand, it’s always interesting to read. If you’re anything like me, reading other people’s income reports gets me extremely motivated. I hope I can do the same as I continue to grow and learn more about the online business.

Dabbled With Fiverr

For those who don’t know, “Fiverr is a global online marketplace offering tasks and services, beginning at a cost of $5 per job performed.” I copied that directly from Google’s search on “what is fiverr?” As many of you know, I have been a full-time freelance graphic designer for over a year. I’m slowly trying to transition my way out of this space since it’s starting to become stale and honestly, I’m not fully enjoying this kind of work. While it’s great income for my family, it’s not what I want to do for my career.

Regardless, I decided to take a quick stab with some design services inside of Fiverr. I created a few templates for my service, which I was selling YouTube banners. I didn’t realize how big of a market there was for this service. I received so many offers, I actually declined them since my templates didn’t suite these individuals needs. However, I made some side cash in the process.

Personally, I won’t be using Fiverr as a means of earning revenue. I simply wanted to test waters and share some quick thoughts.

If you’re looking at getting into the design world and get new clients, Fiverr might be a great way to do so. You get compensated for work, clearly, and it’s a great way to build a portfolio to show to potential clients in the future. However, if you plan to use Fiverr as your primary source of income, you’re going to be constantly working and you’ll be working yourself thin. Not a viable means of income, unless you like QUICK work. Remember, you get what you pay for. As the service provider, you can’t offer $500 jobs for $5. Be smart!

Switched To AWeber

You may remember from last month’s income report, I relaunched the TechJohnson newsletter. This is going to come as a shock to you, especially if you’re in the space that I’m in, but since relaunching the newsletter, I’ve only sent out 2 letters. I also haven’t made any real attempts to get people to sign up, like optimizing my optin page or promoting it.

I know it’s a bit crazy, but I’ve been thinking long and hard about somethings and I’ve come up with some awesome ideas for the brand. Needless to say, a huge aspect moving forward will be my newsletter. I’ve decided to write a free eBook which can only be accessed by signing up to my newsletter.

Also, I’ll be creating an email course which again, can only be accessed by signing up to my newsletter. Things are still in production, but I didn’t AWeber in order to do the things I need to do.

While the course is still in the hush hush, just know that it will be worth it. Best part, it’s all going to be FREE! How awesome.

Currently, I haven’t made all my signup forms on AWeber, so my list is still on MailChimp. If you sign up today, I will guarantee my free eBook and course once the switch and setup has been finalized. So make sure you sign up!

BUSINESS LESSONS LEARNED IN AUGUST

As the Summer months are coming to a close, I am sitting back wondering where they all went. It’s almost as if they never started. Sure, in the early days of July, I went on vacation. But now that it’s officially September and my son is back in school, I feel like we never had a Summer. With that said, I have learned a very valuable lesson throughout the month of August. I worked myself thin. I let valuable family time pass me by. Let me explain.

Taking a look at my net total for August, I can openly admit this was my highest earnings month for the TechJohnson brand, ever! To most people, that’s a huge accomplishment. To me, I feel like I’ve let my family down. Not by the physical amount of money I earned, but by the lack of time I spent with my family.

keep-calm-and-family-first-4I created a video explaining that some things in my life needed to change, ASAP. Watch that video here.

During the video, I explained that I have completely let my physical health go, as well as neglecting my family. It was a hard thing to admit to the public, but I felt it needed to be done. Not only to make myself accountable for changing my life, but as a way to look back on in the future and be proud that I actually took action.

I spent so many hours at my desk during August that I physically felt my body start to suffer. I saw my son’s sadness when I constantly told him I was working. I saw my lady get upset when I told her I would be eating dinner at my desk. All around, I was a completely (lack of a better word) asshole to not only my lady, but my son.

It all clicked on me while I was doing a live stream. My son came in to play with him, I said no, he teared up…wow! For those of you who remember, I literally shut the stream off that second and went outside with my son. I took on SO many clients and did so many live streams that I was throwing my beautiful family out the window.

My point, do not work yourself thin at the expense of your loved ones. Set time aside for work, family and sleep. Nothing in my life is more valuable than my family.
